The periodic table<\/strong> is one of the most important tools to be able to understand and do any chemistry work. As well as giving you a lot of information about all the elements and their atoms<\/a>. The Periodic Table classifies, organises and distributes the different chemical elements according to their properties and characteristics, where they are arranged from left to right and from top to bottom in increasing order of their atomic numbers.<\/p>\n

ATOMIC NUMBER AND ATOMIC MASS<\/h2>\n

The elements are arranged in order in the periodic table according to their atomic number<\/strong>. The atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus of a atom<\/a>. This will determine the chemical properties of the atom (together with the number of electrons) and which chemical element it is. Thus the periodic table is ordered from hydrogen, with 1 proton in the nucleus and atomic number 1, Helium with 2 protons in the nucleus and atomic number 2,...<\/p>\n

The atomic mass<\/strong> is determined by the number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus. Electrons are not taken into account in the atomic mass because they have almost no mass.<\/p>\n

OXIDATION NUMBER<\/h2>\n

The oxidation number will determine the charge of the atom<\/a> when bonding with another element. A positive charge will be defined because the atom has lost electrons by bonding with the other element, a negative charge is determined by the atom gaining electrons.<\/p>\n

The gain or loss of electrons in chemical bonds is determined by the distribution of electrons around the nucleus and the number of electrons. You can see the details of how electrons and energy levels are distributed here: oxidation number<\/a>.<\/p>\n
