EXPERIMENT SHEET FIRST ELECTRIC GENERATOR

Theme

Magnetic field, Electricity

Category

Physics Experiments, Experiments for children

Main product

Magnets, Iron Filings.

Short description

In this experiment we will be able to see how a magnet pulled inside a copper tube appears to slow down its fall. The copper has no magnetic properties, so it would seem a priori that the magnet inside the tube should fall in free fall, but as can be seen in the experiment, slows down.

The effect is produced by the Faraday-Lenz lawwhereby a moving magnetic field produces an electric current. In turn, this electric current is creating a magnetic force on the magnet in the opposite direction to the movement, slowing it down.

The materials used in the experiment are: Copper tube and neodymium magnets.
